When we set out to make the first ever tiny house conference we wanted to be sure that it was going to be as affordable as possible. It takes a lot to pull of an event like this, but we were smart about the decisions we made. The biggest thing was the venue we have chosen. We got a lot of quotes for spaces of $10,000 and up for this event and that was bare bones. So Instead we found a nature preserve that is more the speed of tiny house folks anyway and meant we could charge a few hundred dollar less for folks to come! On top of that we have these tips for you:

If you are not able to afford a ticket, try applying for one of our 15 “pay what you can” tickets and volunteer in lieu of payment. Get details here
Bring a tiny house! Have a tiny house? You can get a free ticket if you’re house is accepted, details here
Hitch a ride, make new friends. Our car pooling section will help you find people to share the ride with and save on gas money Check out the forum here
Camp or couch surf instead of staying in a hotel, don’t forget that camp sites allow for 5 people per site, so if you have a group you can save big. But note one car per site Check out the forum here
Bring your own food. There is a grocery store not too far from the event, grab your food at a grocery store or bring it with you.

Today we went live on the Huffington Post where we talked about the tiny house movement and how conferences like this are helping connect tiny house people together and usher in a new generation of tiny home builders. There are so many people out there who are looking at tiny homes as a path to a better life. The trick is that many of people have so many questions and aren’t sure where to start.

That is where events like this come in, we are able to learn the knowledge, make the connections, find the resources and gain the confidence to take that first step!

What Community Events Mean To Tiny House People

The power of people connecting with other people who share the same ideals as you is really an amazing thing. Over the years I have attended dozens of conferences, but none have compared to the events I go to with Tiny House people. There is something special about the type of people that are drawn to this movement and I count myself lucky to be a part of it.

Whether it is a tiny house workshop, a talk , or our very own tiny house conference, the experience is pretty amazing! You are connecting with so many like minded people, that are passionate about tiny houses at the end you leave energized and ready to take on your next project.

People are drawn to other tiny house people because they believe in tiny houses and have plans to build their own. Often in conversations you have to explain what a tiny house is and why you what to live in one, but I have to keep on reminding myself that at these events, people are already on board and you can spend time sharing ideas instead of explaining.

Events such as these are really quite empowering because you can talk with others that have been there, hear how they overcame roadblocks that you are facing, and gain confidence to make that first swing of the hammer in building your tiny home.
